In the Press: PIN-UP Interviews Deborah Berke About 122 Community Arts Center

March 8, 2018

PIN-UP magazine recently sat down with Partner Deborah Berke to discuss our firm’s approach to transforming old buildings for contemporary uses. Dubbing Deborah the “quiet queen of adaptive reuse,” this lively discussion touched on the changing cultural landscape in New York, contrast versus mimicry in design, and collaborating with architects of the past. The conversation focused on our work at the 122 Community Arts Center in the East Village, a former public school building that now houses three performing and visual arts organizations and a community service agency. The project, led by Partner Maitland Jones and Principal Ameet Hiremath, is nearing completion and will open in spring 2018.
